Guitarist and composer born in Havana. Considered one of the young talents of the Cuban School of Guitar. Joe started his music studies at Manuel Saumell Conservatory and graduated from High School at Amadeo Roldan Music Conservatory. In 2009, he obtained his Bachelor Degree at the University of the Arts of Cuba (ISA) with Highest Honors.
Pre-doctoral Diploma in Musical Heritage Hispanic (2011), Master in Formative Processes of the Teaching of the Arts (2016) and Master in Classical Guitar Performance (2017).
Ott has developed an intense work as a soloist and as part of chamber music ensembles. His guitar has been heard in the main theaters and concert halls of Cuba as well as in various music festivals and stages in Colombia, Mexico, Ecuador, Angola, Haiti and Spain. Joe founded the Kithara Quartet, the Spiral Duet and the Old Harmony Song ensemble, which he conducted for four years. He was also part of Sonantas Habaneras Orchestra and conducted the Amadeo Roldan and Constantino Mendoza Moreira guitar orchestras.
In 2012, he receives the Echo Spiral Eternal Award, awarded at the IV Leo Brouwer Festival of Chamber Music, performing alongside the chamber orchestra of Havana under the direction of Maestro Leo Brouwer. Since 2004, Ott has been involved in the guitar’s pedagogy and has worked in several Conservatories in Cuba and Ecuador.
He has also participated in teaching workshops and master classes at the University of Music and Dance in Monterrey, National Conservatory of Quito, Mape Conservatory Luanda and the San Trinité Conservatory of Port-au-Prince. Among his instructor are Martín Pedreira and Joaquín Clerch, and composer Alfredo Diez Nieto.
He has received master classes with prestigious masters such as Leo Brouwer, Manuel Barruecos, Alvaro Pierri, David Russell, Carles Trepat, Fabio Zanón, Ricardo Gallén, David Martínez, Sergio Assad, Odair Assad, Xavier Díaz la Torre, Aland Lopez, Pascale Boquet, Jorge Luis Zamora, Franz Halasz and Jorge Luis Prats.
Joe Ott premiered his first composition in 2013 and is dedicated to spread the traditional repertoire as well as new works written for guitar, including in his repertoire compositions from the Renaissance to the 21st century.
He currently studies the Master in Classical Guitar Performance at Conservatorio Superior Oscar Espla of Alicante until June 2018 and is a member of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC).
